Mezze

Arroios Market, R. Ângela Pinto 40D | Arroios

Mezze is more than just a restaurant. Run by the Associação Pão a Pão, it is a social integration project that provides training and employment for refugees from the Middle East. Since it opened in 2017, it has played an essential role in integrating refugees, which bestowed it with the "Figure of the Year in Gastronomy" award at the Congresso dos Cozinheiros (Congress of Cooks) the following year. At Mezze – which means "sharing a meal" – it's worth ordering baba ganoush, frikeeh, kebseh and, of course, hummus. The undecided have a few dish sets already defined to choose from.

Fun fact. Hundreds of khubz (Syrian bread) come out of Mezze's kitchen daily to eat in the restaurant or take home.
